P20 - anyone planning to test the new SR purple fuse against their Ultimate Premier in a P15 or P20?

Hey Vmax thanks for sharing again…it seems from what I read…
that you are finding the purple fuse better than the ultimate premier.

Could you please share in which ways the purple excels over the ultimate premier.
I realize that is a lot of reviewing the details and writing of your findings of the musical
improvements the purple is yielding…

Your review would be really appreciated…

Thank you sir!!!
Btw curious about your handle Vmax as in a fighter plane taking off or the
venerable Yamha VMAX motorcycle?

Best wishes

Did you consider fuse direction at all with these AH fuses? They’re breaking in.

Delivered in a jewelry box. Pretty smart!

Well since the Puple is not yet broken in and the P20 is only comparison. It is not fare until I swap it back.

The Ultimate Premier had rounded images and more recessed back sound stage. More clearerHighs is most notable. I will see if this change remains relevant. I came to like Purple over time. It is a little more forward and gives more precise images wider into the soundstage.

Biggest difference is price even with both on a frequent flier discount.

Since i am getting a AQ Dragon powercord for P20. Final opinion may take months. Change or stay the same. Right now the Beeswax reminds me of Audioquest Garth Powell videos. Where he talks about piwer and how you want all frequencies at same level of clarity. Not some loud and others muffled. He puts hands over his mouth while talking and removes them to illustrate differences. The Ultimate Premier may have more muffled frequencies than a Purple fuse.

My VMAX harkens to working with fighter aircraft. They now just put MAX on the throttle quadrants though the -1 flight manuals may still said VMAX

I also have a long running affinity for Steve Stepp designed Velocity Power Boats and christened the first one of mine VMAX having been working with fighter aircraft. He was the first deep vee design to break 100 MPH back in 1980s. I still run a custom rigged Velocity with a 700 HP 540 chevy. It will run way into the 90s but one needs a surfacing drive to get them in the teens and beyond Performance | Velocity Powerboats

I remember they are not directional, but to ensure I put them in as last time (in case of a temporary exchange), I put them in in direction of the writing on them.

If you only exchange one, try in the DS or preamp, will have good effect. If you exchange all, even bigger effect

Again thanks a lot Vmax…

I have my Purple in P15 for 30 minutes and it sounded better than Orange already. It has a cleaner but fuller sound than Orange. The bass is tight and the high has more body. I think it will be way better than Orange after burning.

The Orange compared to Beewax in my system sounded cleaner but thinner. The purple has eliminated that weak point and I really like it so far.

My purple fuse is breathing very well. Seems to really open up after one week. My second purple fuse arrives on Friday. I have not found a place for my Audio Magic Fuse yet. I will try it back in the P20 and put the broke in Purple in my HDPLEX300 see how that sounds. Maybe break the new Purple in on the router LPS The Router doesn’t match well with Ultimate Premier. Too much recessed highs and not open enough. My wife thought she liked Beeswax it better for symphony in the Router LPS until she heard vocals. The stock six amp fuse was best.

As soon as I get my wife to evaluate fuses, I’m in another league, too!

I just did SR Oranges for my whole system when they had their 3 for 2 sale. I replaced 10 fuses. I’ve ordered a few SR Purple fuses to test the performance. UPS says today, should I believe them?

Follow up query on the Purple.
vmax, have you updated your mains plug fuse for the P20 as well as the internal fuse?
(A bit of clarification in case it’s required, as I’m in the UK all our mains plugs are fused with a 13 amp fuse. I presume US mains plugs are fused too?)

They’ve been accurate to the day but not always the time of day for the last bunch of deliveries to me. So let’s be positive and say yep, you’re gonna get it today.

Happy testing.

I am in US. No mains fuse plug here. But have replaced the P20 Power Regenerator main fuse which would equate how your power is distributed in UK with main fuse plug.

ok, thanks.

I turned on the system today and everything sounded flat! Not only that, but the system has also lost the details and mojo that I am accustomed too, and the Purple was in P15 overnight and it was always on. My wife even asked me what I did (did not tell her I spent $200 on a fuse).

I seems to remember I experienced the similar thing with the Orange fuses. Time will tell after a week.

dchang…welcome to the back country mountain roads swithcbacks allegory
of the burn in process.

It is remarkable how one day the sound is really really good and then next kaput!.

I have been through this ole mountain country roads bit with the blue, orange and
Hi Fi Tuning Supreme3s fuses, plus a whole lot of other gear…

Not to worry…keep on cooking (sauteing ) that purple fuse…it will come around in it’s
own time…and it will arrive at the anticipated sonic vista you have been expecting…

This "switchback may occur a number of time more…just stay with it…don’t throw in
the towel…it will arrive at the desired level and stay there…meanwhile sit back relax
just know it will be a okay…

Hope that helps.

Best wishes…

That happened the first night with mine. Even powering a HT. It takes a few days to open up but worth the wait. Definitely one week and it is music everywhere. Perfomer spaces will open up too.

I put a HiFi-Tuning Supreme3 XT fuse in my integrated last month and did notice what I thought was a gradual increase in clarity over the first 75 to 100 hours. But for whatever reason didn’t notice any backsliding as it burned in. Could very well just be me.

Thanks guys! I should have known better. But it’s always nice to hear some reassurance from fallow members:grin::+1:

I’ve used 16 HiFi Tuning fuses between all my devices. They started fine and got better with a small amount of time. The SR Orange fuses sounded a little lifeless but got better. But I’m not convinced that they are that much better the HiFi Tuning Supremes.
