P20 - anyone planning to test the new SR purple fuse against their Ultimate Premier in a P15 or P20?

Hi Dave, yes I did, previously I tried an orange one in my P20 and was never really happy with it, main problem iirc was treble sounded clipped and harsh, after a month I switched back to standard gold p20 fuse and joy! Extended treble again.

Purple is a bit like that still, but it has much thicker, smoother bass sound, not more punchy bass though unfortunately.

I think it’s a keeper

Both Orange and Purple have the clean and detailed treble sound, but the purple improves on mid-range and the treble is less harsh (after two weeks living with 2 purples). I felt Beewax Ultimate has a warmer treble and a more holographic soundstage than both, but it lacks the resolutions of Purple.

I am currently using both Purple and Ultimate and felt that combination gives me a particularly good balance.

Well after being the first to put a Purple fuse in my P20 and trying the AM Beeswax Ultimate Premier from my P20 in my LPS supplies. I put it back in my P20. I first Play BB King at Cook County Jail.

The Beeswax definitely has more mid bass. The wind on the microphone at start of song more distracting getting into mid bass. The tone and timbre of Lucille was spot on between fuses as was BB’s vocals. The inmates clapping sounded more hollow. The strange thing running the fuse in my big r-core router LPS was very close to having it in P20. So again. Digital bits are not just bits.

I put the SR Purple back and was my over all preferred P20 fuse. The wind in mike less pronounced the inmates clapping more live. The mid bass less but defined. One needs more preamp gain to get mid bass up on the purple.

Mind this BB’s voice and guitar great both fuses. And power and HDMI cables were AQ Dragons.

So I stayed with the Purple. Then mailed my Ultimate Premier to a less fortunate audiophile who only thinks hugely expensive cables matter and refuses to buy a fuse. Maybe one of you folks know this guy? We can only hope he becomes hopeless like us fuse tweakers.

Already asked the question in another thread about reference fuse list, at the moment without answers.

So sorry for the bi-question here, but reading about purple I’m frying if I cannot immediately order a few of them (I’m already awaiting for Dragon PC to go full loom). On my P12 specs say the fuse must be 3AH, it is the 230V EU version. SR Purple and Orange fuses (closest to 3A) only are available in 3,15A or 2.5A type, not exactly 3A shown on the back of P12.

I would start from P12 withPurple fuse, along to SPP, BHK Preamp and PST (not DS sr and M1200s because I do not want to open them - lazy guy and considering the operation a high risk for my poor competence).

This is my first fuse replacement so I’m a little bit confused (already asked to Wize Kid, of course).

What’s your opinion?

OP poster here, I’ve just received a 5 amp internal fuse for my P20.
(Luca, your information seems inaccurate?).
Just in now over a day and watched a couple of movies via Netflix last night so only around 12 hours by the time the 2nd one ended.
I could hear an improvement with the movie soundtrack near the end of the 2nd movie, music much more composed.
A long way to go of course but promising so far.

Go for 3.15A at least,I might go even higher with aftermarket fuses, but it should be fine.

Thank you, 0.15A gap (3A vs 3.15A) I really do not understand if matters and what does it mean.

This is a duplicate post from the P20 performance tweaks thread but it is also very relevant here … as I’m the original poster on this thread. I drank the Kool Aid.

I’ve been using the Beatles 1’s CD as a test since this tweak was introduced.
I’ve recently installed an internal SR Purple in my UK P20, (Friday), and it has about 60 hours on it now.
This is the last Purple fuse installed, as all my UK mains plugs were updated last week.
The P20 SR fuse replaced a Audio Magic Ultimate Beeswax fuse.
I think I’m getting to hear what the SR Purple fuses can do now as Purple all the way through my audio system, this has been the best yet.
The bass was still a bit woolly at the start but loosened up later in the session but everything else was spot on.
Vocals, crystal clear, mid and treble were great. Voices had just the right size in the mix, sounds were extending well beyond the speaker edges. Timing and leading edges of notes were spot on.
I was enthralled by the natural sounds I was hearing,
I felt the Beeswax was holding the system back and I was now hearing what the Purples could do.
More to come as both the UK mains fuses and the P20 internal fuses have more burn in time to come,

Had the SR Purple in my P20 for three weeks now (500hr), it replaced a Beeswax Ultimate Premier.

Last night I switched back/forth again the Beeswax. I wouldn’t say one betters the other—they’re of about same level with slightly different offerings.

Whilst Purple plays fuller more impressive-like, and perhaps with a tad more presence of it being upfront.

Beeswax presentation is more holographic, liquid, with better tonal saturation/colors hence delineation—I can hear deeper into the soundstage, follow instruments /vocals easier—clarity?, and along with its more refined highs—is the current preference for my system.

*It is the only aftermarket fuse I’m using in the system, and everything is plugged into the P20.

Interesting! What power cord might you be using with the P20?

Still using old Shunyata Sigma HC on the P20 (looking to upgrade), but afraid of tipping system balance off as got it just about right now…

Ok at around 30 days, the SR Purple finally caught up with all goodness of AM Beeswax as I noted above… Whilst still not quite there yet/missing a whisker~Purple’s energy in the mid (presence), fullness, and overall balance won me over—so yes, another Purple vote for Regens.
^Took me umpteenth times of switching before finally deciding~quite a tough one.

*With Beeswax in P20, did try the Purple in Amp for fun as it’s of same rating—Amp did not quite like it (the standard more natural to my ear). Similar to years ago when I bought Blue for my Pre~preferred its original. So although great fuse, try before buy as it might not be the best fit (soundwise) in all equipments.
