PST Firmware Update 2.4.4 is Available

Yeah, likely a good a idea to. If you are like me though, I probably wouldn’t bother for a while though. Specially with your PST not having any trouble. I didn’t put Sunlight on my DSJ for a few months after release. I originally tested it with a DS Sr. but decided I wouldn’t bother on the DSJ for a while because I don’t really see the rush. I always like having something in the queue to look forward to.

Great to learn you are getting a handle on it. A lesson learned that could be applied to future products as well, clock management. I am assuming production variability across the clocks is not helping things either.

Anyone been able to get the wifi download to work? It says my network connect is set up correctly, but it never finds the latest firmware. I just get the “Exit” notice. I even tried different days at different times, but no luck.

This is what @Palouse posted earlier. Did you follow these steps? I got mine to update the first time with these steps.

Yes, that is what I was working from. I always get #8.

Maybe try it with the USB thumb drive and see if that works.

Understood. I was being lazy… lol

I am a 64 yr.old computer GEEK.
I downloaded v2.4.4 and installed it on a blank US thumb drive and it installed perfectly.

I updated the firmware to 2.4.4 a few days back, and yesterday morning my PST was unresponsive. Had to power cycle it to bring it back to life.

I updated the firmware a couple of days ago. My PST never had a problem, and it has been working fine afterward so far. I did not notice any change in sound either. much ado about nothing for me.

Mirrors my experience.
I must note, PS Audio never promised any improvement/change in sound. From the release notes:

“never promised improvement in sound” is technically true.
But the improvement in sound from the update to 2.4.4, in my room was that the sound of me cursing at my PST was replaced by music coming from my PST; an immeasurable improvement.

That change has got to be worth every penny!

Two days after FW updated the system sounded great today. But it was shut down for two weeks when I did the updates. So, is there an improvement in sound? I cannot be 100% sure now that there was no improvement. I just do not remember how great it sounded before. It could be due to my better mood after a nice vacation also :grinning:

My PST has been working well since 2.4.4 installation … until yesterday. I had put a disc in and set it on repeat to help break in (must have 150 hours of disc play by now, does anyone think much more is required?). I went out for a while and came back late in the evening and noticed the player had stopped mid-track and the logo button was blinking slowly (as opposed to fast during a firmware update). None of the functions responded to the remote or the front panel buttons so I shut it down and turned back on. Since then, it has worked as before. I did check to see if there was another firmware update, but no, it was still on 2.4.4. A minor quirk, but still a little unnerving.

I was able to update the firmware with a USB thumb drive. All is good!

EXACT SAME thing happened to me AFTER updating firmware to v2.4.4; NOT before firmware update.
I went from disc spinning break-in to a USB pre-loaded flash drive.

Not sure if I will use a USB for break-in since I have no plans to use that for listening to music, then again, maybe I should at least try it with some DSD downloads I have just to see. I would also think the USB input has some different circuitry to break in versus the disc spinner.

I consulted Ps staff and they agreed that saving hundreds of hours wear & tear on the cd spinner mechanism is a good thing.

The circuitry that gets broken-in while spinning a cd is the SAME circuitry when using the USB stick I bought from Elusive Disc.

I ONLY listen to cd’s and albums. NO streaming, etc.

For $30. you’ll be glad you’re saving your cd spinner for down the road when the Mk II Dac is released.
