Synergistic Research Purple fuse price drop

Bacch 3D maybe your best solution. I have never experienced the pronounced mid-range issue from MK2. It’s more focused but with a deeper soundstage. My listing room is over 30’ deep so that could be the difference.

Or it could be as simple as different speaker technology and voicing.

I’m using two sets of these, it’s another world.

Assuming the only change you have recently done is the MK II (not sure about that), did you try the old MK I in the system to notice if the tonal “issue” is DAC dependent?

If so, did you try the MK II without any tweak? Stock fuse, no absorbers, stock cable: just to add them back one at a time to see which changes may accentuate or mitigate the brightness.

You have MacIntosh stuff that should sound warmer than M1200s like @dchang05 and I, and we both haven’t noticed yet what you are hearing.

This new fuse isn’t even half way to the top of the line QSA fuse, so I fully expect SR will eventually get there, too.
I’m completely okay with fuse prices. All of them. If you’ e got a $16k amplifier, $1k on a power cable is normal, so why not $1k on a fuse? Personal experience with the QSA Violet is that it is every bit as impactful as similarly priced power cables.

Well the only change was I added in AM Beeswax M-1 Fuse to MK2 versus the AM ultimate Bees Wax SHD for a bit better mid range then have added 300 plus hours.

I’ll admit I am wanting all songs to be perfect. The great playlists are really awesome. The songs used to be lousy are great. The others I call middle of road now have a bit strong midrange. Most people would not notice. Me yeah, I am nit picking perhaps and have been exploring music I didn’t listen too as much. Plus at a bit lower volume. If you pick up the volume the bass starts coming up and the noticeably stronger mid issue disappears. Maybe it is just the room as @dchang05 mentioned

The MK1 is returned. The thing I haven’t paid any attention to in weeks is cable tuning rings. The bed frame supports fixed the previous sliding issues. Perhaps one has moved going to the MK2 or the small one on my DC router cable has slid a bit since it is supported differently or the M-1 fuse change just needs to be tuned by the 3m absorber ring on the MK2 Whisper power cable after burn in. All the combined comments have gave me some new things to consider.

But slow progression in troubleshooting possibilities might resolve change one thing listen change back.

And I thought fuses were pricey. They sure like the mahogany.

I agree with you in general, because I experienced how a fuse might improve sound quality.
I disagree with your cable comparison, in particular if I think about:

  • inherently risks about a possible short life of a fuse - a cable has chances to have a longer life
  • limitations of usage, due to current A type - a cable works with different components in a system to find out where it can bring better results and it is useful even when you replace old gear

Anyhow it depends on how big is the wallet, as usual in this hobby. Let me say a lot of audio things I bought makes me feel embarrassed, from an ethical perspective. But this is not the place and the moment to raise our moral doubts, especially me!

Guess what? I’m not sure sooner or later I’ll buy one of these ultra hi expensive fuses, if I’m not able to stay away from this forum, really a bad place!

Or speakers positioning, if you also changed set up, I don’t remember.

Anyhow you are going to receive the BACCH, this may change in a bigger way your experience. Time will tell.

I bet if there are a couple of great reviews of the new fuse king, we will jump in a hurry. We’re suckers!

Do you want me to help you clarify this concept to your dentist?

I did a speaker movement with MK2 trying to resolve some harshness issues it was a little improved.

SR have heretofore dropped the price of the old fuse to clear the path for the new fuse, since the prices were relatively close. This looks like a new strategy.

A fake tooth is more than a 2m Dragon! My dentist would understand the concept perfectly. In comparison the price of the new fuse looks reasonable.

Well my sleeping on it and postulating on what changed was correct. It seems when I put in the M-1 Fuse, I shut off the MKII and pulled the power plug to better access fuse holder. It was a blind install at bottom of rack left hand reach, which is not dominant. In doing this the cable iec unplug and replug, I inadvertantly shifted tuning ring inboard about 3/8 inch. On my system thats a mile for higher mids output and lower bass output. I went back to last night’s Roon history. Replayed songs that bothered me. Literally day and night difference at same volume levels.

I can now hear bass thumping other side of house again. I was blaming the fuse but it was tuning ring position that changed output balance mid versus bass. Explains totally why it got better with volume bumps.

One never knows how you can chase your tail with system tweaks and once again everything matters once you train your ears and know your systems sound. Change only one thing at a time and recheck periodically.

Boy I sure missed the flavor …as there is no flavor …just a much pricier one
SR calls the Master…wonder how Audio Magic will react to the similar name…

Makes a person wonder what next with these guys…

Best wishes

Next Audio Magic will come out with “The One” and Synergistic Research will follow with “Precious.”

They just wanted a piece of the M-1 Masterpiece Fuse market share. Since they are late we will double price to make up missed sales.

Happy to know you fixed the issue.

It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it, again and again!

Exactly because we love the intrigue of it all. I will say my system is now hitting on all cylinders and I won’t change a thing………until the Bacch4Mac arrives on Saturday! A whole new set of mysteries in sound reproduction to solve. What a tortured life we live!
