The Mignon Eureka is the best, cheapest and most finely adjustable grinder and hugely popular. I’d never heard of Lelit, but took the dealer’s advice.
Going for things that are popular or taking experienced advice has often served me well.
That’s coffee without the coffee… right?
Well, I’m not one to argue about being offered choices.
I wouldn’t complain, having a Jura all in one grinder and brewer, really. My DeLonghi already makes a good coffee, the Jura is a league above.
I had Costa Coffee at the Airport in Brussels a few years back. It was fresh but my Palette wasn’t impressed. Problem is I’m raised on Tim Horton’s Coffee (previously) and Starbucks (now). Whenever my Wife and I see an Independent Coffee Shop, of course we have to try and are rarely disappointed. Tried Costa again at the New Delhi airport on that same trip. Same result unfortunately…
Well it seems as though an update is in order. The Sonus faber Venere 1.5’s are gone for a second and final time. One of my brothers bought them off of me. Something else that’s gone… The JL Audio e110 subs. They aren’t sold yet, but I will be selling them soon.
As for the current system, everything is the same except that I have added another shelf onto the Pangea audio rack and using all of the shorter uprights. The other change are the speakers. I am once again running my dream speakers, tried and true, old faithful NHT 2.9’s that I purchased some 11 years ago when Teresa and I first got together.
The biggest and best change/upgrade of all is that we just moved out of that lousy apartment after a 6 year stint and into a nice little house built in 1951 with all original wood floors and solid plaster walls and ceiling. The only downside, not a single grounded outlet in the entire house. However, I did ask that at least the one outlet that I’ll be using for the system be grounded, which it now is.
The wood floors were just freshly repaired, sanded and refinished by a friend of mine, and my brothers, Teresa and I did all of the painting and sanding/refinishing of the entire interior and doors. Luckily, my new landlord is also a good friend of mine, and his wife actually grew up in this house as her parents moved into the house in 1952.
We have been given the liberty to do pretty much anything we want to the house within reason of course. We just moved in this past week, and this is our 4th night staying here, and we’re loving it already!
Anyway, on with some pics…
From this hillbilly wreck from the previous resident…
To this after we got a hold of it…
And now to my own personal touch…
Congrats Chops, this is awesome! How are the 2.9s performing to the Veneres? Also, how are you liking the dedicated room? I think you were in a living room before?
Thanks James!
The house has come a long way since the first day we looked at it several months back. The new paint made a big difference, but after these floors were redone… Wow!
The 2.9’s sound great as always, but now I can play them a little louder and not bother annoying apartment neighbors. One day I was blasting the system pretty loud (louder than I normally would), and I could barely hear it outside. This house and these windows are really well insulated.
The Venere’s don’t hold a candle to the 2.9’s. Obviously the bass is there and highly detailed, but even the midrange and treble is much better with the 2.9’s. In fact, as far as mids and treble are concerned, with the PS gear on these speakers, they remind me a lot of an amp I had years ago on the 2.9’s that ran a quad set of KT88’s.
The room sounds a lot better now with furniture in it, though I still want to do some sound treatments to it eventually. That’s a tweak I’ve never done before. That will happen once we get rid of these big ugly couches and get something nicer in here.
Nice, but if you’re staying with the stock power cord you’ll never know the full potential of this grinder.
Yesssssir. Mea Culpa. So far, I’ve had no idea how much the power quality can affect the coffee enjoyment. But after this excellent observation I could not remain idle and tackled the problem “subito”.
I chose the exquisite Furutech plug and equipped it with an adequate cable, the individual wires have a cross section of 6 mm². In this way, an energy of about 2.5 kw can flow.
And what can I say … In a nutshell, the coffee tastes unique. The aroma is even more intense and flowery, the taste is fuller, more aromatic and intense.
Of course I did a blind test. I plugged in the first cable, went to the door, tied a band around my eyes, so that I could see nothing, came back and tasted a cup of espresso. The same Procerdere then with the other cable. The thing is clear. See for yourself, Nespresso powered by HighEnd Power cable…
One thing can not be denied. Size matters. Always and everywhere.
Don’t tell me you pimped the coffee machine with an after market plug and snake skin braid on the power cable?
Wow. Great pictures and amazing transformation. Thanks for sharing!
Read my lips. It is the truth and nothing but the pure truth…
Thank you Paul! The room, the refinished floors, and that sweet grey gear especially is what makes the pictures! I always feel honored when you comment on a post of mine, and its an honor to enjoy your gear in my system. These old NHT 2.9’s never sounded better!
When my system grows up, it wants to become this:
(The new Dolby Atmos installation at Blackbird Studio in Nashville. And yes, there are at least six additional ATC subs in that room.)
So your living room has to change, too
Gus shows up here regularly to help with this.
My system
Mooi systeem dat goed in de woonkamer past (PTT contactdoos aan de muur).
I like the clean neutral look of the Hegel and the KEF’s. Suits your living room without coming across bombastic.
What sources are you using? Did you connect your TV to your stereo? If yes how? Optical? Any issues with lip-sync?
