New SR Master fuse review vs AM M1 and Purple to follow

Or plug the “left” xlr interconnect into the “right” xlr connector kind of day.
I was listening to music today, and a piano, which I normally hear off to the left, was off to the right today. I knew instantly what it was, my reconnecting the xlr from the now gone A8 back to my disc/file player. And I couldn’t blame anyone else except me.

There is no question the Master fuse has improved MK2. After one day MK2 is showing up its magic. It sounds so clean, clear, deep, quiet, and with better treble, midrange, and bass compared to M-1 resided in it before. Either that or my brain finally got rid of all the jet lag. My bet is on the Master fuse.

Everything came together today in a big way. Massive update has finally stabilized in my system (two weeks), it went through a sort of Purple fuse period in my system too.

The next step is to put the SR M-1 fuse into Lumin U2, and hopefully it beats the PSA stock fuse in it.

Again, Master fuse needs more than a couple of hundred hours of break in in my system because I had this setup before, and I did not like it the first time.

Is a SR M-1 Fuse An Audio Magic M-1 fuse that your placed in an SR Fuse storage box to condition it? Perhaps some magic UEF properties will tranform it? Lol

AM M-1 has had a proper warmup in the SR box for 30 hours. It was just installed into Lumin U2 and it surely beats PSA stock.

It’s funny because all I did was switching the fuses between Mk2 and U2. Maybe these fuses all need some downtime to reboot. I mean the improvement was not subtle

Hello, I want to ask what type of SR fuse you use for the JC5 (slow or fast). I can see the fuse values, on the back of the amp, but I can’t see if it’s slow or fast). It only says that it is T12 A. I also saw that the SR fuses do not have a value of 12 A, but 12.5 A. Is this fuse used if you are on 230 V. Thank you!

Welcome!

Hey, the T in that fuse rating will stand for Slow Blow (F would stand for Fast Blow).

Hey stekosev…Welcome to the best forum ever!!

I am using a 15 amp slow blow ( T ) SR Purple…

My JC5 came with a 15 amp fuse from factory…
Upgrading from the stock ceramic to SR Purple
or AM M1, or SR Master fuse will definitely improve your
sound.

The AM M1 gives more body than the SR Purple, but
the SR Purple will reveal a lot more subtlety and snappier
detail.

With an SR Master in my P15 power plant and SR Master in
preamp…my system is amazing (to my ears).

Hope this helps

Best wishes

thank you for the information

thanks davidа I’ll check what the fuse rating is in my amp.

How about the Acme silver coated fuses. At around $25 or so a fuse the price is attractive. I have purple fuses in all of my components except my new Silver Fox headphone amp. I am inclined to use another purple fuse as they work for me but the price is prohibitive at the moment. Once again how about the Acme fuse at a quarter of the price?

The Acme are very good, even despite the fact that they are so inexpensive. They give a full, balanced sound. I have one in my amp right now as a rectifier arced and took out the Purple fuse there. I’m in the same boat–not ready right now to buy another Purple, had a seasoned Acme around and have ordered another for a backup fuse. Not missing the Purple which really is not that much better, the biggest difference being the Purple pushes the center image back a bit more, a bit more depth. . .I like that but it’s not a crucial characteristic of the sound.

Having opportunity to get a purple fuse at a good price I got one for my Silver Fox headphone amp and I am blown away at how much better my amp sounds than with the stock fuse. The purple not only sounds better but it solves some problems I was having with certain deep bass frequencies with my Abyss TC headphones. I now have 7 purple fuses in 7 components and I am happy. I could not afford $600US for a fuse but it does not matter as my system sounds good all purple.

Okay, move over Master fuse, here comes AM M-2!

The wrapper is dark blue so there is a difference. :slightly_smiling_face:@vmax, it is in MK2 for 30 minutes and it sounded nice, and I have a feeling you will like it!

But anything sounds good now with RF-30, and I may as well break in the fuse (says on the box 125 hours) and the speakers at the same time.

Ask me in a month if it is better than Master.

At half the price. It is already twice as good.

No kidding, this M-2 is running Mk2 so smoothly that is unlike any fuse break-in I have experienced. Both Purple and Master gave me trouble in the first couple of weeks, and M-1 gave me gradual improvement, but beginning was murky.

M-2 is clean, clear, and comes with silky treble and smooth midrange. It only lacks bass definition and soundstage. But I’m talking about 2 hours after installation. I hope this is all due to the fuse. In any case I’m enjoying. I’ll keep it in for two more weeks before I put back the Master.

Lacks bass with FR-30sb. That is a feat. But you’re making me curious nonetheless.

Donald, damn it. I hope for the rest of us that the lack of bass definition and soundstage compared to the SR Master remains. My AM Ultimate also initially had a spongy, bloated bass. After a long break-in period, the initially bloated, spongy bass changed into a more compact, powerful and yet controlled bass with a lot of punch. The AM Ultimat Premier is superior to the SR Purple and the Hifituning Supreme Silver Gold in the LPS for my switch. Wider and deeper soundstage with natural timbres, more punch in the bass and increased dynamics.
Keep us updated on your sound development. If the M2 is good, I’m glad I didn’t buy another SR Master instead of the SR Purple for my Cambridge Edge nq preamp/streamer. Then the AM M2 might be an option. If a better SR fuse is in sight, it will definitely not be cheaper than the master.

3 hours out of 125 hours of break-in has a long way to go. This is quite a nice start. Remember I put back the plastic slide under FR30 now, that alone may be the reason why I heard less bass definition and reduced soundstage. It may not have anything to do with the fuse.

New speakers clouded my judgement more than likely. I really should wait for two weeks before I gave any valuation (can’t resist since I may be the first one trying M-2 here).

Donald, we’re just not Luca, who can wait and meticulously analyze every single change. Maybe it’s really the feet, maybe I’ll order some with balls from Aliexpress.
